Hailed by no less than Julian Lage as “a shining light of our community”, guitarist & composer Ethan Sherman moves between a wide variety of musical worlds with uncommon ease and a deeply personal sound.

As a bandleader and collaborator, he’s quietly been building a singular body of work orbiting the acoustic music community for many years. His latest release Passages is a vibrant collaboration with some of Nashville's finest pickers; Bluegrass Unlimited called it “exquisite… deftly weaving through a variety of moods and attitudes, from the playful to the profound.”

As a sideman, he has toured with artists including Sarah Jarosz, The Wailin’ Jennys, and Michael Bublé. In addition, he’s recorded and performed around his home of Los Angeles with artists as diverse as Nels Cline, Robbie Fulks, Sean & Sara Watkins, Patrick Shiroishi, Lou Roy, Harrison Whitford, Johanna Samuels, and Ed Helms. As a session musician he has contributed to numerous scores by composer Kris Bowers, including Bob Marley: One Love and the Oscar-winning The Last Repair Shop.

He is also a committed educator, co-authoring (with Adam Levy) String Theories: Tips, Challenges & Reflections for the Lifelong Guitarist, and teaching at workshops like the Fretboard Summit and Chris Thile’s Acousticamp.
